This detailed book by Mark Bliev immerse the reader into is history starting with the remotest times and includes the account of the age-old attempts on the part of the Georgian lords to strip the Ossetians of their will and land, while the actions of the Russian governors in Caucasus have been marked with extreme inconsistency. Only Nikolas I seem to have understood the situation better that others opposing the wide scope of punitive measures against the Ossetians. North Ossetia lived by the laws of Russian Empire while South Ossetia practically remained under the authority of the Georgian oppressors. Stalin continued with this tradition moving the borders with Georgia so that it gained control of the entire Voenno-Gruzinskaya road. It is especially valuable to have the opportunity to trace the attempts on behalf of the new Georgia to expel the Osetians from their back yard. First of all, in 1990 Georgia denied South Ossetia the right of independent existence. The Sochi accords that belong to the times when Shevargnadze was playing with Eltsin resulted in Russia becoming the only sponsor of South Ossetia’s existance, which is constantly being challenged by the adventurism of Tbilisi.
